Chalk it up! Happy Earth Day people! Many of us are stuck at home, but if you have a sidewalk (in addition to the internet) and have foot traffic, you can make an impact. Hopefully you already have chalk at home. I used the last of my blue making this Earth. Besides in front of my house, I also went to a local city park and put some sayings here and there (bummed I couldn't do more blue planets.). Climate step? If traveling, complement your hotels if they have installed bulk soap dispensers, like these in a shower for some hotel I stayed in for work last year. Plant a tree in your neighborhood as a climate step. Trees. Yes, some people argue that it is after the fact of pollution. BUT, if you are planting to shade your environment, you can reduce your electricity bill, reduce the heat out off from concrete, and reduce the urban heat island effect. Thus reducing pollution. OR, if you are planting to shade certain crops in your garden, you can reduce water consumption. And we so need to conserve water, now and for our future. AND trees provide homes to animals, who need our help. AND, if you're lucky, it's a fruit tree as well. Or a food tree for birds. AND, you get a little exercise. AND, you can do it as a family, or with neighbors and bond (and mention climate change), and laugh, and have fun. #Climatestep ? Shaming? In this case technically #gretashaming, but with just a nice, straightforward look. One that doesn't yell at you, but just reminds you, makes you think. I've seen worse photos shaming people to eat vegan, and instead, those mostly cause a backlash. We had a debate in Facebook Climate Steps, and most people there said they were repelled by the images shown by one member. Do we really want to repel people, or have a constructive, reasonable conversation? I like this image instead. I am not responsible for this, by the way. It was put by someone else in the kitchen at work. AND on a related note, take real utensils to work for people to use! Plastic =climate change. See article in our website. #climatestep: a very visual protest. This is the first climate protest that ever caught my eye. Just five molecules walking the streets of Austria, looking somewhat menacing, about right years ago. I have tried to find their creator online, but most info is in German and I need to dig in more. But the blue monsters are still being used in protests today in Europe. Great costumes. Point is, cardboard signs are a great start. Climate step:. Every now and then (more often if chocolate is involved) take a breather and treat yourself, you eco-warrior you. Stay sane. In this case it was with extra thick hot chocolate with a little slice of cheese, the Puerto Rican way. #climatestep #climatesteps #climateanxiety.
