Description: Disaster can strike quickly, so it is important to have a few essential items collected and ready to go. Pack a go bag for yourself and for others in your household and you will have what you most need even if you have to leave in a hurry. It also leaves more time to think about what else you might need to do in a stressful situation.
Tips:
Go bags, or evacuation kits as they are sometimes called, are meant to be easy to grab and to keep with you, so try not to overload yours. Figure out where you would go if you had to evacuate, and take just the essentials you would need to get there and to function once you were there.
• There are many great articles online about how to make a go bag. Read a few, and then pull together what works for your situation.
• Common items may include a small amount of emergency food and water, copies of critical documents, a headlamp, batteries, a first-aid kit, a change of clothing, and critical personal items such as medicine.
• If you live somewhere with pre-assigned evacuation routes, keep a map of the relevant route in your bag.
• Place your go bag where it is easily accessible and not likely to be forgotten in a rush.
